Where should I buy a Piano?

Boca Raton - Delray - Palm Beach - Wellington

Some parents are hesitant to make the investment of purchasing a piano since they fear that their child may lose interest in music. Yet other parents are ready to purchase the instrument but are not sure where to buy a piano. For this reason I have taken it upon myself to travel to all the piano stores in South Florida so that you can have the peace of mind knowing all the options that are available. Now if you are just looking for a cheap electric keyboard you can buy one at any local music store like Guitar Center or Sam Ash but to master the piano you will need an 88 key acoustic piano which all my students are required to have.

What about learning on an electric keyboard? Isn’t it the same thing? No. Most keyboards are not weighted which makes performing on a real piano difficult and the digital buttons are very distracting for young kids with a low attention span. There are countless more reasons why you should stay away from digital keyboards but I have noticed that students who learn on an electric keyboard are withheld from a proper education and tend to quit after 6 months. On the other hand students who study on an acoustic piano will develop proper finger strength, tone, technique and will treasure the gift of music forever! To facilitate the process of purchasing a piano I have put together the following list of the only Piano Retail Stores I would recommend in the areas of Palm Beach, Wellington, Boca Raton, Delray and Jupiter.

Piano Stores
Steinway Piano Gallery

7940 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL 33487

If you know anything in the piano world then you know that Steinway is the Ferrari of pianos. At this gallery they offer new and used Essex, Boston and Steinway Pianos. You can purchase a used piano staring at $3,000 and a new piano for around $10,000. Of course a top of the line Steinway piano can go as high as a quarter million dollars and for that reason many people think you have to spend alot of money for a Steinway. However the prices here can be just as competive as other dealers. If you are looking for the best piano, then a Steinway is the way to go.

Kretzer Piano

240 W Indiantown Rd, Jupiter, FL 33458

When I was a teen I had the privilege to work alongside Kathi Kretzer as I started to develop my skills as a performer. Today she owns Kretzer Piano which sells new Yamaha and Pearl River pianos. Rentals range between $40-$80 per month depending on the piano but I recommend to demonstrate your commitment and purchase your own instrument. If your child loses interest within 3 years you can have the peace of mind that Kretzer includes a parent protection plan in which you can return the piano and receive 60% of your money back; which ends up being less than renting. Either way, this store is a great choice when it comes to buying a piano for a great price.

Bobb’s Pianos & Organs

1583 North Military Trail, West Palm Beach, FL 33409

Known as the largest piano dealer in South Florida this family owned piano gallery has been around for over 3 generations. It is the largest store you will find with over 100 used pianos to choose from. They also offer a rental program starting at $69 a month which includes delivery.

Chafin Music Center

608 N Dixie Hwy, Lake Worth, FL 33460

One of the smallest local piano stores and it  has been around for over 60 years with a wide selection of pre-owned pianos. They have a great program where you can rent an acoustic piano for just $35 a month! A minimum of six-months of rent is required which includes delivery. All the money you put towards the rental will be credited for when you are ready to purchase your own piano. I recommend this store for any parent who wants to “test” and see if their child is ready for music lessons but it will be a lower quality piano.
